Why do you need a consultant? In my 38 year career, I've
been called on countless times to inspect temperature measurement
installations or to sit in on proposed installations with vendors. I will
flatly state that many plant or vendor-designed installations were poorly engineered, that incorrect
equipment was specified, incorrect settings were used, and that too many
vendors were poorly informed about how to use their own systems correctly.
All too often, facilities had to start over and install new equipment
because what they installed was inadequate to meet their
needs. The result was considerable extra costs. In short, hire a
professional to do the job right in the first place and you'll save money
through improved accuracy, reliability and product quality.
What services do I provide as a
consultant?
- I provide consulting on how to design, select and install new
temperature measurement systems to provide accuracy and
maintainability.
- I suggest designs for more complex systems using imbedded computers
to improve temperature readings.
- I can survey your existing systems to determine whether they can
or should be upgraded, and the suggest the upgrades.
- I can recommend necessary maintenance, training and calibration
methods.
What services do I not provide?
- I do not provide calibration services.
- I no longer build specialized radiation thermometers, but I can
tell you how to build them.
- I guarantee no accuracies other than to say that when I am done,
what you have will be an improvement over what you had before.
What are your fees etc?
- I charge $100/hour for on-site consulting.
- I charge $50-$75/hour for off-site consulting depending on the
complexity.
- I charge simple expense account travel ($50 maximum per day food,
and $150 maximum per day hotel) plus air travel and car rental as
necessary, plus any credit card interest or minor expenses, all
documented.
- I retain the rights to 5% royalties in any systems that I invent
which become patented in your name.
Are you incorporated?
Yes. I am incorporated as R. Rudolph Consulting, LLC.
Question: why do I work so cheap?
I am retired, living in a beautiful home high in the foothills of the
Sandia Mountains overlooking Albuquerque. My backyard overlooks all of
Albuquerque with beautiful sunsets at night and my front yard looks up
into the mountains. Obviously, to live here, I've done well financially
All my life I've been fortunate to work at things that have been
interesting. So, if I take your job, and I may not, part of the reason is that it may
entertain me, and why should I charge a lot for my own entertainment? |
